An approach to the aestethic principles of the instrumental works by María Teresa Luengo (1940-)

Abstract

This article offers an approach to the aesthetic principles on which the Argentine composer María Teresa Luengo developed her instrumental musical language. While Luengo’s extensive artistic career focused mainly on electronic and electroacoustic music, as well as music with mixed media, she has returned to revising, recomposing, and creating works for analog instruments in solo formations and chamber ensembles, in recent years. Since 2014 the composer and myself began working together, during which time we developed a profoundly personal and professional relationship of deep and mutual affection and respect. During that time I had the opportunity to get to know first-hand not only her work and creative process, but also understand the elements that constitute the bases of her musical aesthetics.
